Blue shark fishing

Booked a six hour trip and had terrific weather. Joined by two other families from England and we all got on really great. You draw lots and each family has a number. Six rods are out and if you get a take number one lands the first. Then number two lands the second and number three next. We were lucky enough to catch three so all parties left happy. On the way out we had the added bonus of seeing dolphins. Real value for money
Loads of sharks and a great experience

I’m a keen coarse angler back in the UK, but I wanted to experience something a bit different in the fishing spectrum.
Myself and my brother in law booked ourselves onto the trip to go shark fishing from the kiosk in Vilamoura harbour. The lady that took our booking was friendly and informative and we’d booked in advance by a few days.
The trip out required a minimum of six people to sail, and we were the first two. However, it is early season and the entire algarve has been fairly quiet whilst we have been here anyway.
We paid €60 euros each and there was a requirement on the day to bring €5 for your fishing permit.
The day before, we happened to back in Vilamoura and the lady flagged us down to let us know that there were only 4 booked onto the excursion. The options were either to move onto another trip, or to have a refund. I proposed that I would be happy to pay for an extra place in order to sail, and the lady sorting the booking said she’d put the same idea to the other two clients that had booked.
I received a call later on that day once they knew they were definitely not going to have any other bookings, and it was confirmed that the other people going on the trip were also happy to pay for an extra place to ensure the trip went ahead. Excellent!
Before we set off I actually read a review on here, which made me extremely downhearted about what was to come, but we left for the harbour anyway and got to the boat.
We got on board and sailed for around 40 mins to get the area we were to fish at and the skipper set the chum bag and started the drift.
The conditions were pretty nice for us really, overcast yet warm and the swell was around 10-15ft at most so not too choppy either.
We drew lots to see who was going to get on the rods, but as there were only 4 of us we essentially had a rod each and then a few others were put out too. Within 20 mins of the chum bag being out, it went crazy and we managed 9 sharks in the first 30 minutes of action which was more than we could possibly have hoped for!
There was a bit of a lull in the action but it picked up again and we ended up with 14 sharks between us, ranging from 15-100lb+. We even headed back around 40 minutes early because we were all happy with what we experienced and had plenty of memories.
The guys running the boat were spot on, a little rough around the edges perhaps but you wouldn’t want it any other way on a shark boat surely?
One thing I will say is that this was an exceptional circumstance as there were 4 of us on a boat that would normally hold 10 paying customers. I can see how 10
people on this trip would feel a little cramped as the cabin had around 6 places to sit.
A few things that I’d presume would seem obvious here too but I’ll point them out to any prospective clients of this trip....
It is called shark ‘fishing’, not shark ‘catching’. What I mean by this is that you are fishing for a wild animal that won’t always play to a script or show up on cue. They are fishermen, not magicians.
The average number of sharks the guys say they catch is usually between 3-7 so consider that on a full excursion, some people may merely be spectators. If this will leave a foul taste in your mouth it might be worth you booking something more private.
You’re going to be heading out to sea.... again the guys on the boat aren’t magic and can’t dictate to the sea what it should be doing, so it could be rough and people might get sick. Be realistic...
There was a toilet on board, but no refreshment, so take plenty of water and some lunch. The entire day will last around 6 hours.
Great day out

Went out for a great day fishing with Paulo and team.
A great day out.
The wind and choppy seas did not sop us from having fun catching fish and some good fighting sharks.
There may be cheaper options, but this team and their hospitality is worth every cent.
Keep it up
Good day out

This was a good day out. The crew were very experienced, the boat suited for fishing and sunbathing and the equipment good.
The type of fishing meant that the rods were fixed to the boat and you watched the line. The crew could not do any more, we even got to see some dolphins on the way home.
The water was choppy but I took an anti sickness tablet and made sure I ate lunch. This helped stop feeling sea sick. I was worried about this but none of the psssengers were sick.

Sortie sympa. Helas, l'océan était trop froid le jour de notre sortie et nous sommes rentrés bredouilles. Très bonne ambiance sur le bateau. Attention, l'équipage ne parle qu'en anglais
