About this activity

Delve into the best of the Algarve, while not having to worry about driving and parking between popular spots. We will provide you with as much local knowledge, history, culture and tips as possible. Then, in each place, you will also have time on your own to explore. For shared tours we do not pickup from different points.. Therefore, this tour starts at a single meeting point, at the public parking lot in front (across the street) of the Vila Galé Cerro Alagoa hotel at 9:00 am and ends at the same point. The times for each stop must be met. When in Lagos old town, we will park outside the walled town, then we`ll lead you walking to the center of the town, giving you tips for restaurants as well as places to visit. The guide will then set up a meeting point for pick up, and from there the customers will have more than 2 and a half hours to enjoy Lagos on their own. Thank you very much for your understanding.

Itinerary

  1. 1
    Cape Saint Vincent

40 min - Being the most south-westerly point in mainland Europe, this rugged and forbidding Cape has long been considered sacred ground – ancient Greeks called it the ‘Land of Serpents’, but the pugnacious Romans oddly preferred a meeker designation: Promontorium Sacrum (‘Holy Promontory’), the Latin origin of the name ‘Sagres’ (from Sacrum). For them, terra firma-loving citizens of Rome, Cape St. Vincent was the ‘Edge of the World’, a supernatural vortex where the setting sun was dramatically submerged by the immense, unknown ocean (still today, the fading solar disk occasionally seems bigger and brighter at Cape St. Vincent). The myth persisted throughout the Middle Ages until a man decided to end all that crazy nonsense and – in the process – put an end to the Age of Darkness: Prince Henry the Navigator

  2. 2
    Porto da Baleeira

10 min - View point over the bay/Port of Sagres. In terms of global importance, Sagres' heyday was in the 15th century and this was down to Prince Henry the Navigator. He chose Sagres as his home and location of his school of navigation. Please note that we will not be visiting Sagres fortress on this tour. If you would like a personalized tour including a visit to this or other monuments, please book a private tour instead of a shared one. Thank you for your understanding.

  3. 3
    Mareta Beach

10 min - Breathtaking viewpoint over Sagres and Mareta beach, also to Sagres fort. Please note that we will not be visiting Sagres fortress on this tour. If you would like a personalized tour including a visit to this or other monuments, please book a private tour instead of a shared one. Thank you for your understanding.

  4. 4
    Lagos

2 hr 30 min - Lagos is a historic and characterful city that is situated on the beautiful Western Algarve. It is a city that boasts a rich seafaring heritage and a coastline of dramatic natural scenery, and today is one of the Algarve’s finest holiday destinations. We will park outside the walled town, then our guide will lead you on a walking tour to the center of town, giving you tips for restaurants as well as places to visit. The town is small, so you can easily cover the most interesting places on foot. The guide will then set a meeting point to collect everyone later for return. Then from there the customers will have more than 2 and a half hours to enjoy Lagos on their own.

  5. 5
    Ponta da Piedade Lighthouse

30 min - The cliffs of the Ponta da Piedade headland is one of the finest natural features of the Algarve. This dramatic limestone coastline is formed of sea pillars, fragile rock arches and hidden grottos, all of which have been chiselled-out by savage winter storms.

Fantastic Tour with Gabriel!

Do yourself a favour and book this tour with Gabriel from GL Tours! I’d give it 10 stars if I could. Gabriel was friendly, prompt and very knowledgeable. His passion for his country shone through. He took us to some of the most beautiful viewpoints in all of Portugal and gave us time to explore them at our own pace. We really enjoyed our day.

Best Tour Ever!!

If I could leave more than 5 stars, I would. Gabriel, our tour guide, was one of the most enthusiastic and down to earth people I have ever met. He genuinely enjoys what he does and it really reflects this through his tour. It was only 4 of us on the tour which really made the tour feel a bit more intimate. He gave us a great recommendation for lunch and just gave us everything we needed to know about these areas. If you are in Albufeira, please don’t miss this opportunity!
